FAQ INCOMING STUDENTS

BEFORE THE MOBILITY

How can I send my application and get it approved?

To start your application, it is necessary for you to have been nominated by your home university. You will then be contacted by our Erasmus Central Office (erasmusincoming@uniroma1.it) to proceed and to receive all the needed information.

Application process

With regard to the Application process you are doing at Sapienza University, you must continue to refer to the central offices (erasmusincoming@uniroma1.it) which will send out an email with the information you require.

How can I get my Learning Agreement / Digital Learning Agreement approved/DLA?

If your home University operates through digital approval (EWP), the LA approval is going to happen digitally; otherwise, a signature on the PDF document is required.
For matters regarding the approval of the Learning Agreement, you can send an email to: incoming.disse@uniroma1.it.

 Who is the RAEF?

The Erasmus Administrative Representative is a crucial figure for your mobility. For all information regarding administrative aspects of the Erasmus program (i.e. call for applicants, application process, necessary duties before departure) it is possible to refer to your Erasmus Faculty Administrative Coordinator (RAEF). The RAEF’s name for DiSSE department is Flavia Orlandi.
The email address for the Erasmus Office is incoming.disse@uniroma1.it
The office address is:
Via Salaria, 113 - 00198 Roma
Segreteria Tesi di Laurea / Segreteria Ufficio Erasmus - I piano, stanza 127
Tel: (+39) 06 49918373

Who has to sign my EWP DLA or my LA (PDF)? Which contacts should I indicate?

The following contacts are the correct ones to fill in your EWP DLA (Digital Learning Agreement) only if it is an online Learning Agreement:

Where is it possible to consult the Academic Calendar of the Department of Social Sciences and Economics?

The academic calendar for the Department of Social Sciences and Economics can be accessed through this link, where you will find details regarding lessons and exam dates. If the calendar for the next year is not yet available, it means that it will be updated soon. Remember that if you picked courses from other departments they might follow different academic calendars.

Where is it possible to find the list of courses and programmes of the Department of Social Sciences and Economics?

You can find the educational offer of the Department of Social Sciences and Economics at this link specific to the Bachelor’s and Master's degree.
To view the subjects of each degree course, please navigate to the 'ATTENDANCE' section (not 'STUDY PLAN') and then “LESSONS”, select the correct year and then check the courses for the various curricula available. The semester in which the course will take place is specified next to each subject, alongside credits and language.

In which language are the lessons held?

A tag is placed beside each degree course and next to each subject to indicate the language it's taught in (ex. “ENG”, “ITA”). At the moment most courses offered by our Department are in Italian, with the exception of Development and International Cooperation Studies, which has English subjects as well.

Is it possible to attend subjects whose courses last the entire Academic Year?

Yes, it’s possible. In this case the mobility must last the entire Academic Year or be extended to one academic year (if your home University agrees to it).

Is it possible to choose an exam from any Master degree as a Bachelor student and vice versa?

It is not a problem on our side, but you must understand whether your home university allows that.

Is it possible to attend courses in more than one Faculty/Department?

Yes, it is, with some specifications. We recommend not choosing courses from more than two/three Departments, otherwise the risk of timetable overlap becomes higher, and it's also strongly recommended to choose at least one course from our Department. The complete Sapienza Catalogue is accessible through this link.
For any information related to degree courses or subjects from other Departments, please refer to the respective websites or contact the relevant RAEF (Erasmus Administrative Referent of the Faculty), which you can find through this link.
We notify that the Architecture Faculty is not accepting international students from other Departments at the moment, due to organizational issues. It is also recommended to contact the professor to let them know you will be attending their classes.
You can get more information on how to choose Sapienza courses through the following guide. If you decide to follow the teachings of other Departments/Faculties we cannot provide you with much help, so you will have to find information on your own.

Be careful when choosing courses because some Departments are located outside Rome and taking their courses could be a problem!

PLEASE NOTE: if an exam is composed of multiple modules (for example, 6 ECTS + 3 ECTS for a total of 9 ECTS), it is not allowed to take only one part of the total exam (for example, only 6 ECTS or only 3), but it needs to be taken in its entirety (9 ECTS), unless clearly expressed by the professor.

Are there Italian Language Courses available for exchange students?

Yes, they are provided by the Sapienza Language Centre (CLA) but it is necessary to indicate your intention to follow the course during the Application procedure. For additional information, please visit the CLA website.

 Does Sapienza provide accommodation?

Sapienza University does not provide student housing; however, you can explore affiliated housing agreements and recommendations for accommodation options here.
You can find more information and Buddies’ advice on accommodation in this file.
PLEASE NOTE: beware of people asking you to pay money just to see the room: it’s a scam! Always make sure the house is real before paying.

Is there a Welcome Day/Week?

Sapienza University organises Welcome Weeks twice a year, in September for the first semester and in February for the second; more information here: International Student Welcome Week. During the event, students receive useful information about academic and university life at Sapienza. It is a great opportunity to meet the Erasmus staff and members of the Erasmus Student Network (ESN).
Each Faculty/Department also hosts a Welcome Day during these weeks; you will receive an invitation.
