1. APPLICATION
a. General information about the application
- How can I apply for Erasmus mobility?
The student who wishes to participate in Erasmus mobility can submit an online application, as indicated in the call published every year between December and January. Example: Bando Erasmus+ a.a. 2026-27
- Which requirements do I need to apply?
There are general requirements to participate in the Erasmus+ call, mostly academic and linguistic.
These include:- Having acquired at least 6 CFU in your career by the deadline of the call;
- Being enrolled in Sapienza and up to date with the payment of taxes;
- Having a minimum level of linguistic competence equal to level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Proficiency (CEFR) recognised by the European Council. For further clarification, consult the FAQ section “ d. how to certify linguistic competence”.
- How do I choose the host university?
In the Agreements File, published on our Department’s website, you will find useful information about mobility and destinations that you can choose.
When choosing, you will need to take into account:- ISCED AREA, which must necessarily be associated with your degree course (0314 Sociology area; 0311 Economic Area; 0923 Social Work Area).
- Language level.
- Level of study (1 - Bachelor's degree; 2 - Master's degree; 3 - PhD).
- How can I find more information about the university I picked?
In the Agreements File there is a section that contains the information sheets of the host universities (fact sheets). In these you will find links to courses, semester dates, contacts and other useful information.
- Is the order in which I enter destinations in my application random or preferential?
It is preferential and binding. If you are assigned to the first destination chosen, you will not be able to give it up to move on to the second. Once you have been assigned, you will not be able to change it in any way.
- I am enrolled in a degree program that corresponds to a different level than the one required by the desired partner university, can I still apply?
No, it's not possible. It is necessary that the chosen destination requires the same level of study as the one you are enrolled in.
- Can I choose a different ISCED area from mine?
No. You must choose the destination within your own area of study, according to the list that follows:
- 0311 : International Economic and Financial Relations (L-33). Economic Analysis of International Institutions (LM-56), Economics and Policies for Global Sustainability (LM-56).
- 0314 : Sociology (L-40), Sociology for Sustainability and Analysis of Global Processes (LM-88).
- 0923 : Sciences and Techniques of Social Work (L-39). Project Management and Evaluation of Social Services (LM-87).
- During which semester can I go?
The choice of the semester is free. You will be able to decide whether to move in the first or second semester, or all year round (if provided for in the interinstitutional agreement).
We recommend carefully checking the foreign course offer, and making sure that the courses you wish to follow are actually delivered in the semester in which you intend to leave.
- How long can mobility last?
Erasmus mobility lasts a maximum of 12 months per education cycle (Bachelor’s and Master's). For doctoral students, both long mobility and short mobility are possible (it has a minimum duration of 5 days and a maximum of 30 days and must only be carried out in Program Countries).
- Which are the Program Countries?
Programme countries include all Member States of the European Union, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey, Serbia and the Republic of North Macedonia.
- Which are the Partner Countries?
United Kingdom and Switzerland.
- I haven't taken any exams in my entire career at Sapienza: can I apply anyway?
To apply you must have at least 6 CFU registered in your career by the deadline of the call.
- Does the minimum number of CFU also apply to doctoral students?
No, doctoral students are not required to have a minimum of CFU.
- I am in the third year of a Bachelor degree. Is it possible to apply if I start a Master's degree course next year?
Yes, but you can only apply if, in the following academic year, you will enroll in a Master's degree program delivered by the DiSSE department. Furthermore, if you change your area of study (e.g. after the Bachelor’s degree in Sociology area 0314, you enroll in the Master's degree in Economics and Policies for Global Sustainability area 0311) you will have to apply for the destinations that include the same area and level of study, respectively: 0311 and 2° level.
- I left out some data in the application but I have already sent it, can I change it?
Yes, by the deadline for applications for the call you can reopen the application and send it again.
- What are the contact people for the various procedures?
For the application requirements and procedures, the reference is the RAEF (Faculty Administrative Spokesperson). The RAEF of the DiSSE Department is Flavia Orlandi, you can contact her at the following address erasmus.disse@uniroma1.it.
Regarding the educational aspects of mobility, you can refer to your RAM (Supervisors for International Mobility). This is the teacher who will support you in completing the Learning Agreement (study plan).

- Insurance coverage:
The injury and civil liability insurance from which the student automatically benefits by enrolling in Sapienza is extended, in the same way, for the entire period of stay abroad at the host institution. Doctoral students must verify the need for any additional insurance coverage compared to the one guaranteed by Sapienza.
b. Study Project during application procedure
- What is PFP?
It is a document made by the student during the application phase, which includes both the foreign courses that they plan to attend abroad and the respective Italian exams that they intend to validate upon return. It is subject to evaluation for the purpose of the ranking.
- How to create the Preliminary Study Plan for the application?
It is necessary to compare the Italian courses, not yet taken at the time of departure, with those offered by the foreign university, ensuring that they are provided abroad in the same semester in which the mobility period is intended to take place.
Below we attach an informative and explanatory file regarding the Preliminary Study Plan.
- Is it necessary to choose exams that include attendance during the semester in which I am doing the mobility?
Yes. It is not possible to take foreign exams in the second semester if you start in the first and vice versa.
- Can I also include proficiency tests among the exams to be included in completing the application?
You can only add proficiency tests if passing these awards CFU.
- How can I find correspondence between an Italian exam and multiple foreign exams in my Preliminary Study Plan?
There is not always a correspondence between the exams delivered by the partner university and the exams included in the Sapienza study plan. Sometimes, to match an Italian exam (e.g. 9 ECTS) it may be necessary to pass 2 or more foreign exams which, together, are thematically compatible and whose number of ECTS covers or exceeds the ECTS of the Italian exam (e.g. taking 2 exams, one with 3 or 4 ECTS and the other with 6 ECTS). However, excess ECTS cannot always be used in the subsequent validation of Italian exams.
- When completing the Preliminary Study Plan I cannot find exams that correspond to those taught in Italy; in this case can I use the 12 credits that can be obtained through elective exams?
Yes. If they have not yet been taken in Italy, check the foreign offer and identify exams consistent with those “OPTIONAL GROUP” of the Italian study plan.
- Is it mandatory to choose courses corresponding to my degree’s year? Or can I select courses from different years in the foreign university?
It is at the discretion of the Partner university. For most destinations it is also possible to choose courses from different years.
- Do you necessarily need to choose the courses provided by the foreign Department where you are registered or is it possible to integrate the courses from multiple departments?
It depends on the Partner university: they often require a percentage of the courses attended to belong to the department with which we have the agreement (often around 60%). This data is sometimes explained in the factsheet of the host universities. Agreements File.
- I am a Master's degree student. When completing the Preliminary Study Plan, can I also choose exams that belong to a Bachelor’s degree and vice versa?
Potentially yes, but it depends on the call and the university you plan to apply for. If the host university also has agreements for the lower level (1°), then it may also be possible to select exams from Bachelor’s degrees.
- There are no assigned credits for the courses of the host university, how can I compare them in terms of CFU to ours?
Should the host university have missed this detail, consult the agreements file on the DiSSE department website: there you can find the contact emails of the host university’s office: we recommend that you ask them for information.
- Where can I find the codes of the courses I intend to take?
Only on the website of the Partner University, which you can also access through the Agreements File.
- What do I include in the application if I can't find the code of a course I intend to take during the mobility?
If you can't find the foreign course code you can enter three zeros (000).
- Once the Preliminary Study Plan has been finalized, must it be approved by the RAM teacher before definitively completing the application?
At this stage you are not required to have confirmation from the RAM.
However, you can start asking the RAM of your area for support to evaluate the compatibility between your study plan and the destination's course offer.
- How much is a CFU worth in ECTS?
1 CFU = 1 ECTS.
c. How to certify language proficiency
- I do not have any language certification, what can I do to participate in the Erasmus call?
You can take one of the various tests offered by CLA (University Language Centre), on several dates, starting from September until the call closes, to obtain a certification on your language level. Before the call closes, you must have at least an A2 level in the language in which the lessons are taught at the host university.
The tests are free of charge if taken for the purpose of verifying the requirements for participation in the Erasmus call.
Further information available on the portal “Language test for periods of study abroad | CLA - University Language Centre”, where it is possible to find the dates and information necessary to obtain the certificates.
- Is the CLA certificate sufficient for all Partner universities?
No, for some Partner universities the certificate issued by the CLA may not be sufficient as a verification of the language requirement. Please check for each university which language certifications are required, and if necessary integrate with the required certifications.
We would like to point out that the CLA allows you to take paid exams to obtain certifications of the following languages: Cambridge English, IELTS English, SIELE Spanish, DELF/DALF French.
Further information available on the portal “COURSES AND CERTIFICATIONS | CLA - University Language Centre”.
- If the destination does not have a mandatory level, am I free to go even without certifications?
The minimum requirement for departure is an A2 level in the languages of the destinations you have chosen, even when they do not require a mandatory level.
- I have obtained a certain level on the CLA language test or I have a certain language certification lower than the level required by the desired destination. Can I still apply?
Yes, you can apply but it is strongly recommended that the score is only one level lower by a maximum (e.g. I have a B1 and I am applying to a location that requires B2) with the reservation of committing to reaching that required level within the established times by the host university, which can continue until the application procedures, or until the days before departure. If you are unable to implement this level, you will no longer be able to go or change destination.
- What are the conditions for being exempt from taking and passing language tests?
In the call, in the section “Exemption from language tests”, there is all the necessary information.
Those who fall into one of the following cases are exempt from carrying out the test:- Have passed the test at the CLA for the ERASMUS+ call in the year preceding the current call or in the past two sessions of the current academic year.
- Be a native speaker for the language chosen for mobility (more info on the specific article of the call).
- Have achieved a minimum level of linguistic competence equal to at least level A2, attested by means of an official certificate issued by one of the Certifying Bodies provided for in the CEFR equivalence table, for the language(s) chosen for mobility purposes.
Be enrolled in courses of study entirely taught in English at Sapienza, if English was the language required for mobility purposes. - Have obtained the upper secondary school diploma from an international high school recognized by the MUR.
- Have obtained, during any period of mobility carried out in the academic year preceding the current one, a minimum level of linguistic competence equal to level A2 through a linguistic competence level certificate issued by the Language Center of the host University.
- Be bilingual.
- How long are Language Certifications valid? And which are recognized by the CEFR?
Language certifications have a validity that varies depending on the certifying body. Partner universities can request level updates. The list of language certifications recognised for the selection Erasmus+ call for study can usually be consulted among the annexes of the call.
- Do the exams taken in the language count as language certifications?
No, language exams and electives are not comparable to obtaining a language certification or passing the test at the CLA.
- If the courses are taught in two languages, but compulsory provision is not made explicit, is it sufficient if you have the required level of only one of the two? Or do you need to have both?
It is necessary to have the language requirement required by the host university only for the language in which the courses you intend to attend are delivered.
- Are language certifications part of the ranking calculation?
In the latest published call (2025/2026) no, they are only needed when choosing the destination. But for future calls this could vary.
2. BEFORE THE MOBILITY - PROCEDURES
- When will the rankings be published?
About a month after the call closes, a provisional ranking will be published.
After a few days (usually 5) from publication, unless requests for revision are made, the ranking will be considered definitive.
At the end of that period, successful candidates will receive an email with instructions for accepting mobility.
- Will I have to attend meetings before departure?
In the months before departure, the Internationalization Unit and the Department organize meetings (online and face-to-face) to which all recipients of mobility are warmly invited.
This is a very useful opportunity in order to become aware of the procedures and carry out mobility with more confidence.
- If you are the recipient of Erasmus mobility grant, what procedures do you need to follow for acceptance?
Winners must accept the assigned mobility within a number of days (indicated in the call) from the date of receipt of the grant assignment email.
The assigned destination cannot be changed.
Acceptance must be done by accessing your personal page, according to the instructions received. Subsequently it will be necessary to indicate the departure date (the date must be consistent with the chosen mobility semester).
Instructions on carrying out all the necessary requirements for accepting the assigned mobility will be sent by e-mail.
- If the agreement provides for a mobility period of 9 or 10 months, can I request a reduction?
Yes, it is possible to ask for a reduction as soon as you accept the mobility. You can also choose if you want to depart during the first semester or during the second semester.
- What is an EWP / Digital Learning Agreement?
EWP stands for “Erasmus Without Paper”. It is a digital initiative aimed at simplifying and digitalizing the Erasmus+ mobility process for students and academic staff. The platform enables the electronic exchange of documents between European universities. If your host university uses this system as well, your study project (Learning Agreement) approval will take place digitally.
- What is a Learning Agreement?
The Learning Agreement (L.A.) is the version in PDF of your D.L.A.
If your host university does not support EWP the Learning Agreements exchange will happen in the traditional method: via email.
A draft of your D.L.A./L.A. (your Study Plan) should have already been created during the application phase. The Study Plan is a necessary starting point for the preparation of your Learning Agreement, to finalise its writing, it is necessary to contact your RAM.
- How can I know whether my host university uses an online platform like EWP to manage and exchange documents, or if I need to send the required documents traditionally via email in PDF format?
Once you enter your departure date on the Relint platform, the system will indicate, on the page dedicated to completing the Learning Agreement, whether your host university uses EWP.
Additionally, the system will send you an email informing you of the approval method (traditional or via EWP).
- My RAM has approved my L.A. (PDF) What should I do next?
When your L.A. gets approved by your RAM, with a digital signature, you will receive a notification via mail, after you have to:
- download and print the document;
- have it signed and stamped by your host university;
- Upload it in the “UPLOAD DOCUMENTS” section on your Relint personal account.
- How can I track the acceptance status of my D.L.A.?
When the host university approves or rejects the D.L.A. you submitted (which has already been approved by your RAM), a green checkmark will appear in the “UPLOAD DOCUMENTS” section to indicate approval.
- I still can’t see or download the Erasmus contract (Financial Agreement) in my personal area. When will it be available?
The PDF of the Erasmus contract (Financial Agreement) will be available in your personal area only after your RAM has approved the submitted D.L.A. / Learning Agreement.
Therefore, it is essential to contact your RAM as soon as possible to select compatible courses for your study path and complete the Learning Agreement, which must be approved by the RAM through the platform.
- How can I find the contact details (name and email address) of the person responsible for the DLA at the partner university?
This information is usually provided by the partner university via email, along with further details and instructions to complete the application process.
If not explicitly stated, you can check the contact details of the coordinators in the host university’s factsheet within the agreements file.
3. DURANTE LA MOBILITA’- PROCEDURE
- What should I do once I have arrived?
Once you have arrived it is necessary to print the “Declaration of Arrival” module.
You can find it on your Relint personal page.
Once printed, you have to get it filled, signed and stamped by your host university.
Furthermore, on your Relint page you have to:- Fill the required fields related to your arrival date on the “Declaration of Arrival”;
- Upload your Declaration of Arrival in the “Upload Documents” section.
- Is it possible to edit my L.A./D.L.A. during my mobility?
Yes it is, in order to edit or to add exams to your L.A. it is necessary to fill the module “Change Form” on your Relint personal page, under the section “Online Procedures”, it is only available after the registration of your Declaration of Arrival.
- My mobility has started and I’ve arrived at the host university, but I can’t fill in the Change Form. Why?
If you're unable to fill in the Change Form, it's most likely because you haven't uploaded your Certificate of Arrival to your personal Relint page yet.
If you have uploaded it, the central office, SMOUT, may not have validated it yet.
- Can the predefined duration of the Erasmus grant be extended?
Yes, a beneficiary can request an extension of the grant (approval is required both from the host university and from Sapienza).
The request must be submitted at least one month before the end of the originally planned Erasmus period.
The allocation of additional funding for the extension will depend on the availability of funds at the end of the mobility period.
- What documents are required to certify the end of the mobility period?
The following documents are required:
- Transcript of Records (certificate of exams taken, issued by the host university) and/or a Declaration of research work carried out (for thesis or PhD mobility);
- Certificate of Attendance, which can be downloaded from your personal Relint page (section: “Pre-filled documents to download”).
Both documents must be sent directly by the host university to erasmus.disse@uniroma1.it
The Certificate of Attendance must also be sent to the central Erasmus office at smout@uniroma1.it .
Documents sent by students will not be accepted.
- How do I obtain my Certificate of Attendance?
You must download the certificate from your personal Relint page. It must then be filled in, signed, and stamped by your host university.
The CoA must indicate the official start and end dates of your mobility period.
Please note: The CoA includes three dates that must be filled in:- Arrival Date: This must match the date indicated in your Declaration of Arrival;
- End date: This must correspond to the date of your last exam at the host university;
- Date of issue: This must be the same as, or a few days after, your declared end date.
4. FINE MOBILITA’- PROCEDURE
- When does my Erasmus mobility end?
Your mobility ends with the conclusion of the didactic activities, specifically on the date of your final exam. You may remain abroad after this date, but grant payments will be suspended beyond the approved mobility period.
- How does the convalidation of the activities I did abroad happen? And how long does the convalidation take?
Once you receive the notification confirming the upload of your Transcript of Records, you must validate it by adding the passed exams on your personal account. The departmental office will proceed with the official registration and recording of the activities. The validation process is complete when the exams appear in Infostud. The entire procedure can take up to 14 days to be completed.
- Is it possible to refuse the marks proposed for the convalidation?
Yes. In this case you have to retake the exam in Sapienza.
- In which cases am I required to return the grant funds?
The European grant is supplemented by additional contributions from the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR – Fondo Giovani) and Sapienza University, based on your ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator).
You may be required to return the funds if you fail to obtain at least 12 ECTS credits by the deadline specified in the call for applications.
Grant management is handled by the Central Erasmus Office, so for any further information, please contact: smout@uniroma1.it.
- Grade conversion table:
You can consult the grade conversion table by clicking on this link.
- What additional recognitions can I obtain through the Erasmus mobility experience?
In addition to being a valuable and enriching academic experience, participating in the Erasmus+ mobility program also provides specific benefits to your academic career at Sapienza. In particular, you may be entitled to:
- Two bonus points added to your final thesis grade. When you apply for graduation, remember to send the Certificate of Attendance received from your host university to your department thesis office (tesi.sociologia-serviziosociale@uniroma1.it) or to Dr. Giorgio Liguori (for students in the Economics area). The certificate is also available in your Erasmus personal page, under the "info-borsa" section.
- 3 ECTS credits as part of the University Training Experience Portfolio (Infostud code AAF1224), if foreseen in your study plan and not already earned through other activities. Please refer to the dedicated page for more information.
- What is OLS?
OLS (Online Language Support) is the language support tool provided by the Erasmus+ programme.
Erasmus+ participants with Erasmus+ status and grant have access to an online platform designed to help them assess and improve their language skills.
To take the test and attend language courses, students must register on the EU Academy platform.
Usually, shortly before the departure date, OLS sends an email to the student’s institutional email address, inviting them to take a language assessment test. After completing the test, the student can request access to a language support course.
A similar email is sent again at the end of the mobility period to monitor the student’s language progress.
